GOGOLFEST is the first Ukrainian annual international multidisciplinary festival of contemporary art. The IV edition of festival will be held during September 3-19, 2010. The festival consists of 5 programs: theatre, music, VAP (Visual Art Program), cinema, and literature. A focus on education is a key component of the festival. All programs include workshops, lectures and presentations, as well as co-production projects of international curators and artists with Ukrainian artists, actors and musicians.

The first festival was held in 2007 in Art Arsenal due to the private initiative of Vladislav Troitsky, the director and founder of the Center of Contemporary Art DAKH. The next years GOGOLFEST was held with the support of Evgenyi Utkin, founder of the IT-company KVAZAR-MICRO. The unique space of Art Arsenal have determined the festival’s format, scale, and image of the festival. GOGOLFEST's purpose is to make an old Arsenal one of the centres of the international festival movement, a magic place, where the impossible becomes possible.

In 2007 GOGOLFEST visited St. Petersburg, Moscow and Perm, where concerts, performances, and exhibitions of Ukrainian artists were presented with great success. Grand Prix - Sergei Kurekhin Prize of Contemporary Art POP-MECHANICS was the confirmation of GOGOLFEST's winning the world recognition. In 2010-2011 festival will be presented in Paris, Edinburgh, Warsaw, Budapest, and Toronto. This year GOGOLFEST projects are to be shown in Dnipropetrovsk, Lviv, Odessa, Kharkiv, Sevastopol.

The expected audience of the festival is 1 million people. Participants from more than 30 countries has confirmed their participation in the event. The total number of festival participants is about 1000.


The event of the year is GOGOLFEST opening with co-production performance by Catalan Theatre La Fura dels Baus (Barcelona, Spain) and the DAKH theatre. The grand performance will be held on September 4th in the Independence Square (Kyiv). Juergen Mueller is the director of the action. The production involves nearly 100 participants. A live TV broadcast is planned.

GOGOLFEST.Theatre program will present a sample of actual performances from all over the world. Russian Liquid.Theatre will open the theatre program. Among the other participants are Drama and Direction Centre of Aleksey Kazantsev and Mikhail Roshchin (Russia), “hip-hopera” COPS IN THE FIRE (Russia), athletic dance theater KATAKLO (Italy), drama groups PLASMA (Switzerland) etc.

Ukrainian theatre showcase includes the latest performances of the theatres” FREE STAGE” (Kyiv), Dyula Iyesha Hungarian National Theatre (Beregovo), Centre of Contemporary Art DAKH, Ivan Franko Music and Drama Theatre (Ivano-Frankivsk), Kharkiv State Puppet Theatre, Theatre VOSKRESINNIA (Lviv), Kyiv Modern Ballet (Kyiv) and others.

Festival music program includes concerts of world famous bands, academic music, night program (6 night parties will present the latest trends in electronic music), and club concerts. Koktebel Jazz Festivals, Jazz in Kyiv and DutchPunch (Netherlands) will present their own programs under GOGOLFEST label. Confirmed participants: Michael Nyman band (UK); jazz pianist Giovanni Allevi (Italy); Jazzsteppa (UK); special project DETI VYDRY by Moscow composer-neoakademist Vladimir Martynov, Perm choir MLADA, Moscow Ensemble OPUS PoSTH and Tuva ensemble HUUN-HUUR-TU; a joint performance of accordionist Kimmo Pohyonen (Finland) and DAKHABRAKHA band (Ukraine); Karol' Szymanowski Quartet (Germany).


VAP program curator: Katya Bochavar (curator of international projects in the US, Switzerland, Russia, Germany, France, Great Britain), the designer of the Russian pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2009.

The revolutionary and ambitious VAP program (Visual Art Projects) will provide multimedia and multidisciplinary projects to present the current trends of contemporary art, expanding the geographic, historical, and intellectual boundaries. VAP focuses on site-specific projects, created for the GOGOLFEST space , namely, sound art, video art, digital, kinetic art, performance, scientific art. Special Children Program, Humanization of Machines, aims to explore children's perception of art and technology and to present technology projects created by artists under 13.

Among the VAP curatorial institutions are the Museum of Modern Art PERMM (Russia), Onedotzero distribution (United Kingdom), Kinetica Art Fair (UK), Cyberfest (USA), Art Satellite (Russia), Pinchuk Art Centre (Ukraine), Baibakov Art Projects (Russia), Multimedia set of actual arts (Russia).

This year we will present programs of the best films of the past two years: the documentary (non-fiction) short films and experimental cinema and video art. Traditionally, the GOGOLFEST partners program will also be presented. These include International Festival MOLODIST', Arthouse traffic, Cinefantom, retrospective of Fellini films etc.

Litreaktor 1.0 project curator: Lyubko Deresh

The program includes readings, meetings, workshops, discussions with the authors. The literature program was created together with the largest Ukrainian Book Fair Publishers’ Forum in Lviv. As part of the literature program, the 1st Literature Seminar-laboratory LITREACTOR 1.0 will take place. It aims to reconsider the modern Ukrainian reality in the mythological and symbolic way.
